Print making
When hearing of a chance to learn print making -- I jumped all over it. As an artist I'm always striving to learn new techniques. I'm also a firm believer in DIY and printmaking has a lot of versatile options that come with it.
I work with 'Printmakers Anonymous' a small group of individuals with all experience levels in print making. We focus primarily on wood/lino carving techniques. I'm a huge wimp and have weak stubby fingers, which means I don't utilize the true Linoleum blocks to carve on... I utilize a very rubbery easy cut material, which also allows me to carve quickly, because I am also one of those people who believe in instant artistic gratification.
Overall the learning experience has been great - It's not formal by any means, but just a few artists helping others and answering questions fairly casually. I've learned enough by watching that I've taken my tools home to experiment further.
The photos are of prints that were pulled this past weekend. I worked with single ink and then multi layers of ink.
There's something really exciting and nurturing about working with a new medium. You learn about stretching mediums, how they will work (both in your mind and in reality) and what you as an artist can add to using this medium, or how you can take advantage of it for your own creative vision.
Hopefully I can share more with some practice. Some of these prints will be available for viewing during Franklinton Friday @ 400 west Rich street -- April 13th
