Santa Fe 4/16

We arrived in Santa Fe and ready to take on the town.

First stop was the Georgia O’keeffe museum. There were so many goodies here. Georgia’s preserved paint brushes, paint box and paints. They also had some of her personal collections of animal skulls that showed up in numerous pieces of her works.

The Plaza is typically on everyone’s list. The last time I was here it was a hot 4th of July weekend and it was SO crowded I never got to stop. All the parking was gone. This time it was a bit of a ghost town.

Native Americans lined the row in front of the palace of the governors with their goods ranging from clay pots, art prints and jewelry presented on blankets in front of them.

Lunch was enjoyed from a second story patio that overlooked the plaza while we enjoyed the Native American chants and songs being sung in the middle of the plaza square.

Santa Fe is well calculated, cultured and blatant on its focus of the arts, but sometimes it can feel like you’re sharing the same monotonous experience as everyone else, like you’re just going through the motions. It was nice to finally see, but it’s not the true heart of the west in my opinion.
